Hi there New here

Post by Blueheeler »

Hi there i'm Karen from cheshire

I'm currently having a love hate relationship with my Largo

Long story short bought it this time last year as my new Dog mobile, was going to build crates in for the hounds, and pretty much never got round to it, it's been sat on my drive for a year and before that the poor old bus was sat in a carpark with it's front stove in for about a year.
Went to get organised back in July and found it had been written off by the previous owners insurance 7 months after I bought it - OMG the hassle, so I just left it again, so neglected poor thing!
Come early september my darling little escort decided to eat it's own engine in the fast lane of the M42 south of Brum, fully loaded with me, the hubby, no1 son and 2 dogs. After spending 4 hours on the side of the motorway and being hurled home on and in a low loader care of the RAC, I realised I was going to have to either buy a new cheap car to trash to death or get the largo on the road!

After much scouring of auto trader and EBay and a lot of cussing and depression (gotta have wheels otherwise can't get anywhere with the hounds) and pavement trudging of around 10 miles a day, I started to look for bits for the Largo. As if on cue I received an email from a guy who breaks Largos saying he was breaking one, well straight away I emailed back saying I needed this that and the other, 1 week later the Largo was ready for it's MOT and there the love hate relationship started! I have to drive the bugger!

Ok not so short a story LOL but it's been an adventure!

MOT passed first time OMG knew it would but was still stunned! Couple of advisories which I'll get to in the new year.
VIC cert passed and sorted
Taxed and back on the road!

Sorted!

Ya think??? LOL

Driving it, yeah i love it, as long as it's going forward I despise parking it, infact I tend to avoid going anywhere that I will have to struggle to park, so towns out for a start!
Anyways I'll ramble all day and I have a list of questions to stick in the other bits of the forum - So hello from Cheshire and hopefully you guys can help me totally love my Largo.

Here's the old bus as it is now

Welcome to the forums. We all hate our cars when there is a problem. But the joy of the Largo when it's running fine far outweighs the bad points :)

I think more than anything, I'm struggling to get used to an auto - I was seriously challenged for a year to pass my test in a manual, and hated gears, but when I finally passed on the 3rd attempt and got a car, gears just became second nature to the point of being able to change gear without using my clutch, I knew my escort so well. Now I find I'm willing the bugger to change gear, only to find it hasn't got anymore!
The transition from manual to auto really hasn't come smoothly, I had to go read up on automatic gear boxes, before I realised that it has a kick down which helped enormously but I still feel out of sorts driving it. Time I guess to adjust :) only been driving the old bus for 5 weeks or so.

Hi Karen and welcome to largofriends.

To be honest this is the first auto i have owned and now i always wonder why i never owned an auto before. Its so much more relaxed to drive than manual and makes driving short or even long distances a real breeze :D
