Thanks, currently trying to sort out air con, the machine wouldn't even start to top it up as the leak is so bad!!!

As is the norm not much service history so I am thinking of doing the following immediately and then other jobs as needs, any thing else you can suggest?

Oil and filter change
Automatic transmission oil change
Flush cooling system
EGR clean
Air separator valve clean
Core plugs

Belts look pretty good
Wheel alignment done today as it was badly out......

Try simple one first aircon fuse blown. If not could well be the pump

If took to a non specialist then they just hook it to a machine and try to draw a vacuum. If it wont hold the vacuum then the machine will not go onto fill the system due to ozone depleting nature of the refrigerant. What you need to do is have the system filled with an inert gas with a floursent dye also and then you can see where the leaks are. Some cars are prone to leaks on the condenser (astras) they literally fall apart so just a visual will confirm the first port of call for a leak. Others are prone to leaks on the orings where they dry out and shrink (subarus). Others could be front end damage from previous accident or just a stone come up and compromised the sealed system.
