Hi everyone!

Post by fallendark »

Hey all,

Just bought a largo, 2.0td 2wd 8 seater, needs a lot of work but my friend Val (he's posted on here about it) has been working on it for me. Ex owner neglect...

I'm a little confused and im hoping you can all help me. In the boot there were 2 black metal fittings, two plates with 2 wing nuts, look to be part of the roof bars??

Any help with this is appreciated.

Welcome along. What you got to sort on it.
Put a pic up of the bits as they don't sound like anything that belongs on the bus. Only place theres a wing nut is by the passengers seat to access the oil dipstick

Well its up in the air at the moment as the bracket for the alternator mounting had broken off, whole tensioner assembly has been stripped out (along with most of the front of the engine.) needs that, and the drivers wing and headlamp replacing and shes on the road.

These are the metal fittings in question, they were in the tray under the boot floor, wrapped in a Japanese labelled towel along with the 4 roof bar fitting covers.

I've seen similar things to attach an awning

hang on, you may be onto something there. i say this because all the roof bar covers were off and in the boot, and one side (the passengers) the fittings look like they have been "modified" (ill get a pic tommrow) so an awning would make sense.

You hook the awnings eyelet onto these fittings. As most day van awnings attach to a rail. As the Largo doesn't have a rail you modify the roof rail passenger side. I looked into this last year but couldn't find the fittings like these. So I used guy ropes to pull the eyelets taught and over the bus and peg them in on the drivers side.
