Hello! Might be buying a Highway Star

Post by Daveyboy20 »

Hi guys, signed up to get more info on these machines. One has come up for sale (I valeted it today for my mate) and I'm wondering whether i should go for it or not!

It's a 2.0 diesel with 170 000 miles on it. It's had the sill and read arch welded for the MoT. The rear arches are rusty, and there are a few rusty bits here and there, but on the whole it looks tidy. The interior is pretty mint - bar some wear on the front seats.

It has the cool glittery blue Highway Star stickers down the sides. Oh and it's white.

Anything i should look for on it? Roughly what should i be paying do you think?

Oh - it's 4x4 as well. And it has the 4 moon roofs in the back as well as an electric sun roof. :)

Welcome along they either come with either tin top or moon roofs and electric sunroof. Front seat wear is pretty common. The milage is high but when you consider its over 20yrs old, mine has 150000 on the clock and still runs brilliantly as long as its serviced and looked after. without looking at it or seeing pics id say around 500 with the rust you mentioned. If the rear arches are rusty id also check up under the sills there a large area that goes from the sills to the floor that's probably gone, also check the under of the rear floor pan and have a feel up under the rear bumper. Check that it doesn't stall on full lock with the lights on and off and make sure the overdrive button works as its like a extra gear. Good luck

Check the exhaust is ok , a stainless would cost 300 for life.

Cheers guys - well it was a little more than that but we've gone for it anyway! Thanks for the info. We're gonna pay for the rust to be fixed soon, it's going to be my wife's daily as we're about to be joined by a mini daveyboy (or girl) 20. The pram wouldn't fit in the e36 cabrio!
